“WE MEET OUR EQUAL FACE TO FACE LIKE MAGNETS”
A talk for the Lurgan & North Armagh George W Russell Festival Society 11th April 2021
To belong in the world is our deepest need and the four primary areas or goals which give us that sense of having a place here are:
1. having a sense of well-being (1st House)
2. a means to support oneself (10th House)
3. supportive relationships (7th House)
4. a place of sanctuary or inner peace (4th House)
Conflicts created by our need for fulfilment in these areas are part of the harmonious dance as each gets its opportunity to perform in the course of a day and a lifetime.
We all need to have a role in the world and it’s opposite is our need for home as a sanctuary from the world.
The other opposing need is to have a personal destiny to fulfill as well as a need for relationships.
We are always dancing between what seems like chaotic conflict, which brings with it the gift of continuous growth.
The harmony of the balance which eventually sets in as we get used to the new situation or people and then the tragedy experienced when it is time to let go of the old to make way for the new.
Unfortunately we cannot experience harmony all the time as the fundamentally continuous truth of our survival requires movement.
Nothing in the universe stands still - no date or time or experience can ever be repeated
We can learn to move with the changes, get stuck in a rut and or take the medication necessary to cover our fear and help us to cope.
Growth is being able to face the fears that once may have crippled us. For instance, when we walk into a new place or meet a stranger we start the dance with initial nervousness or shyness followed by attraction or
aversion depending on our emotional response to the experience but eventually we have to let it go as we move to the next situation.
We stay in our comfort zone, procrastinating for as long as possible, especially as we get older, but it cannot last as we must move. It’s just how it is.....

Many years ago I started a long struggle to attain peace of mind when I took refuge in a 12-step programme where it was recommended for those in the grip of despair and lack of faith to recite the Serenity Prayer. In more recent times I have discovered that this isn’t just a prayer but also a lesson on how to use our Inner Solar System to understand the motivations in our lives
This prayer teaches us that we cannot achieve peace and serenity without the grace of God's (Sun) GOD grant me the SERENITY. Our serenity is disturbed by the Mind (Moon) when it creates the illusion of self-importance where we think we are God. The cravings for excitement from Thoughts (Mercury) and Desires (Venus) are so strong that we are powerless to resist and because we have free-will we can choose to pursue whatever it is we are greedy for and fight (Mars) for it if necessary.
For those of us not blessed with the good fortune of faith in a power greater than ourselves we struggle to achieve the illusions of the Mind, which creates much distress and always ends in distress. My pursuit of pleasure has always lead to disillusion, because, whether I achieved it or not, it was never enough. To become available to God it was necessary for me to exhaust all my own possibilities.
The powerlessness I experienced eventually led me to meditation where I discovered that by giving my mind a rest from the constant bombardment of thoughts, I became more peaceful within myself, was able to think clearly and was less pulled in different direction by every passing fancy. In the Bhagavad Gita ch5.27-28, it recommends:
“Closing his eyes, his vision focused between the eyebrows,
making the in-breath and out-breath equal as they pass through his nostrils,
he controls his senses and his mind, intent on liberation;
when desire, fear, and anger have left him, that man is forever free”
Reciting a Mantra (man=mind, tra=protect) we protect the mind, . Sanjay Rath says “ a good thought is the seed of good deeds” and the Bhagavad Gita in ch8-13 suggests “uttering the sacred OM, which itself is freedom”
Now this brings me to the second part of the Serenity Prayer where as a result of balancing the Mind through Breath work, Meditation and Mantra we are better able to face the reality of any situation with maturity (Saturn) and ACCEPT the things we cannot change. We will have the strength of character to discriminate between right and wrong action (Mars) and have the COURAGE to change the things we can. Our outlook and behaviour becomes more positive, kind and generous (Jupiter) as a result of having gained the WISDOM to know the difference.
The Serenity Prayer is a fine example of how Universal Wisdom is made available to us by the Grace of God when we surrender to His will. That it could have brought me from the depths of despair to the joy of Jyotish was beyond my wildest dreams.
A new cycle begins which will take approximately 18 years to complete. Every 9 years we go through a dance of one experience to its opposite. The present moment is a direct consequence of what happened 9 years ago.
During the recent eclipse cycle we got an opportunity to penetrate to a deeper place in ourselves in the quest for spirit. It is a time for liberation from what has been completed and an initiation into what needs to be developed. Difficulties arise if we don't want to let go or don't like the insecurity due to lack of experience in the new territory opening up. Our discontent becomes a bridge between the material and the spiritual world where we are compelled to create balance.

Legends in Astrology - Many years ago Das Goravani's Jyotish online discussion group GJLIST created a space for hungry souls on a quest for astrological knowledge to ask questions and share ideas. To my delight it was through this forum I first heard the high knowledge and wisdom of Sanjay Rath as he shone his lineage of light from ancient India to unravel the complexities and with a few words bring understanding on the exquisite Divine order working through all of creation like nothing I had heard before.
Having traveled from Ireland, it was my privilege to capture the beauty of that joyful, magical moment when these two souls met for the first time on US soil. Many peoples lives have been blessed by their extraordinary work, we know who we are and it continues...
